Daily Picture - 9

I took this photograph early this afternoon before the weather turned really grey and unpleasant.  Completed in 1991 it is Jersey's largest reservoir holding 262 million gallons.  I remember in the autumn of 1985, walking with thousands of other islanders in a demonstration, fronted by David Bellamy, against the flooding of the valley.  That battle was lost but as I walked around the valley this afternoon I wandered whether it was such a bad thing, despite the bad weather there were a considerable number of people walking and running around the reservoir, probably far more people than if it had just remained as a valley.  Colour was provided by a flash of blue as a Kingfisher flew past, just one of a wide variety of birds which now call the valley home, even if on a temporary basis.
A photograph from almost the same position on a slightly better day last winter
